Selangor Pakatan Gov. refusal to enforce the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672)

MCA Serdang Service and Coordination Centre Head Dato’ Yap Pian Hon and Deputy Head Tan Kok Chin jointly urged to Selangor Menteri Besar, Mr. Azmin Ali to publicly justify his administration’s refusal to enforce the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) in the Selangor state to comprehensively and systematically process the rubbish and solid waste which has worsen over time and endangered the health and safety of the Selangor people.

This call is necessitated in view of the remarks made by YB Dato’ Abdul Rahman Dahlan, the Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government that he was not made known on why the Selangor State Government refused to ratify and enforce the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) in the state.

The Selangor Pakatan Government had through its local authiorities appointed contractors, collect rubbish and waste but the media had continuously expose the complaints made by the residents on the issues of littering and public health, which reflects the Selangor Pakatan Government’s  failure in managing the waste and resulted in the matter getting out of hand.

The press statement also mentioned that the Minister of Health had received complaints and had visited Selangor only to point out that the Selangor State Government and its City and local authorities did not manage the waste properly resulting in threats to public health and safety, and also resulted in Selangor having the highest number of dengue cases and death rate, he had even threaten that summons may be issued towards the local governments in accordance to law.

The press statement mentioned that in view of Selangor’s rejection to the enforcement of the Act for unknown reason, it has resulted in the waste classification unable to commence in the state, however, the State Exco in charge of the local government affairs, Mr. Ean Yong Hian Wah had announced that there will be classification of waste in the district council Hulu Selangor, Municipal Council Kajang and Ampang Jaya and Petaling Jaya City Council despite there is no law governing it, thus making a mockery and resulted in the people around Klang Valley at a loss.

The Press Statement further urge the Selangor Pakatan Government to immediately make its stand and review its decision to allow the Act to be enforced within the state. Bad decision like the one made in year 2008 to ice the Federal Government’s effort to bring in raw water from Pahang to Selangor and the construction of Langat 2 water treatment plants, had already caused much suffering to the Selangor people, and resulted in water treatment plants cannot ready in year 2012, this should serve as a reminder to the Selangor State administration, as eventually, the Selangor Pakatan Government had to accept the raw water from Pahang. The Selangor Pakatan Government should learn its lesson and should dealt with the rubbish and waste immediately, to systematically process waste and prevent Selangor from being a dirty rubbish state.
