Press Statemnt By Dato’ Yap Pian Hon, former MCA Vice Pesident’s Rebuff In Regards To DAP Leaders Lim Kit Siang / Lim Guan Eng’s Recent Press Statements Leading To “Ops Lalang” Mass Arrests in 1987.

Press Statemnt By Dato’ Yap Pian Hon, former MCA Vice Pesident’s Rebuff In Regards To DAP Leaders Lim Kit Siang / Lim Guan Eng’s Recent Press Statements Leading To “Ops Lalang” Mass Arrests in 1987.

The 1987 “Ops Lalang” came about when then Minister of Education Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim refused to retract his Ministry’s earlier decision to appoint School Administrators of SJK (C) who are not trained in Chinese Language inspite of national protests by politicians, NGOs’ social-activists, academicians.

As then MCA National Youth Chief, I called upon MCA Youth members of all levels (States, Divisions And Branches) to initiate protests and to send a strong message to the Education Ministry objecting its placement policy while DAP Leaders also participated the protest actions but Dato’ Sri Anwar refuses to reverse his ministerial order via his press release and this caused massive dissatisfaction among the Chinese communities. Subsequently, the Government issued the order of  arrests of 116 persons including myself under “Ops Lalang” of 1987.

Let me remind DAP leaders (Lim Kit Siang & Lim Guan Eng) to recognized the fact that “Ops Lalang 1987”  in which Dato’ Sri Anwar’s refusal to yield to public outcry and protests in his controversial decision was the sole root cause.  DAP leaders and members should not forget that they also participated in lodging protests then.

DAP leaders are fond to twist facts and switch political stands to serve its political ends, ignoring the truth and root cause leading to this landmark incident, merely to assist Dato’ Sri Anwar’s candidacy in the coming Kajang by-election.  I urge the electorate of Kajang to reject him outright thus sending a strong signal for his extremist acts of the past, and as an apology to the then “Ops Lalang” detainees.
